AURA360 & SCORE ANNOUNCE BROADCAST SCHEDULE FOR 2005 DESERT RACING SERIES
PORTLAND, Maine – September 16, 2005
Aura360 and SCORE
International, the World’s foremost desert racing sanctioning body, announced
today the program schedule for coverage of SCORE’s 2005 desert racing series.
SCORE’s 38th Tecate Baja 1000, 37th Tecate Baja 500, Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup I,
and 10th Las Vegas Primm 300 will air on cable network OLN beginning in
September. NBC will air a one-hour special of the SCORE Tecate Baja 1000 in
December.
Aura360, a firm specializing in the creation and development of emerging event and media properties co-produced the series for both NBC and OLN. “We wanted to create a comprehensive series that would highlight the adventure and exhilaration of the races and show the true nature of the competitions. Each program will give viewers a behind the scenes look at the event and the diverse athletes that risk their lives to compete,” said Rufus Frost, co-founder of Aura360.
The SCORE Tecate Baja 1000 is the oldest and most well known desert race enticing NASCAR champions, action sports athletes, celebrities, and casino owners to compete. Its magnetism has captivated athletes for over thirty years and has lured celebrities such as Paul Newman, James Garner, and Ted Nugent. This year, nearly 300 entries, competing in 27 Pro and 5 Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs will participate in the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. The Tecate SCORE Baja 1000’s sister race, the Baja 500, has been equally successful boasting entrants from over 30 U.S. States and a dozen countries.
SCORE’s newest race, the Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup I, was held at the Dirt Track of Las Vegas Motor Speedway and featured a special man-made ‘chunk of Baja’ course. Twenty of the top desert racers from Southern Nevada, including five in the marquee SCORE Trophy-Truck division, came to compete in the glowing gaming capital of the world.
Just thirty-five miles south of glitzy Las Vegas, near the Nevada/California border, SCORE hosted another notorious desert race. The 2005 SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300 boasted a race-record 211 entries from 13 States, Canada, Japan, Mexico and South Africa. The 10th Annual SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300 Desert Race featured 17 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes vying for the best time as they completed four 74-mile laps in the desert.
"Our 2005 SCORE Desert Series has been record-breaking and incredibly exciting," said Sal Fish, president and ceo of SCORE International. "Our racers are committed and determined, their race vehicles are phenomenal and their support crews are creative and tireless. We are confident that Aura360 will capture the essence of this year's SCORE Desert Series and the exposure on NBC and OLN will create even greater interest in the World's Foremost Desert Racing Series."
Last year, Aura360 co-produced the 2004 Tecate SCORE Baja1000 for NBC, marking the first time a desert race had been televised on a major national network since 1981. This year the production was expanded to create a complete series of SCORE’s desert races for cable partner OLN, marking a turning point for the sport.
